Bioinorganic Chemistry

Information resources on bioinorganic chemistry.

Bioinorganic chemistry is a indisciplinary scientific branch that examines the chemistry of metal-containing compounds within biological and biochemical systems.

The organic compounds and molecules are composed predominantly of non-metals. Nevertheless, the metals play a role in life processes. The bioinorganic chemistry examines the influence of metals, observed changes by the artificial addition and developed models, for example, about the behavior of metalloproteins etc. Other areas of employment are the metal ion transport in the cells, their storage, transport of oxygen to metals, medicine and Pharmacy metal-active substances, environmental chemistry etc.

Journals

Bioinorganic Chemistry and Applications
... includes all aspects of bioinorganic chemistry, including bioorganometallic chemistry and applied bioinorganic chemistry. Hindawi Publishing

BioMetals
... is a journal for metals researchers who practice in medicine, biochemistry, pharmacology, toxicology, microbiology, cell biology, chemistry, and plant physiology who are based academic, industrial and government laboratories. Springer

Journal of Biological Inorganic Chemistry
... covers advances in the understanding of systems involving one or more metal ions set in a biological matrix - particularly metalloproteins and metal-nucleic acid complexes - in order to understand biological function at the molecular level. Synthetic analogues mimicking function, structure and spectroscopy of naturally occurring biological molecules are also of interest to the journal. Springer

Journal of Inorganic Biochemistry
... is an established international forum for research in all aspects of Biological Inorganic Chemistry. Elsevier

Metallomics
... is a subject that is receiving great attention as a new frontier in the investigation of trace elements in biology and is expected to develop as an interdisciplinary science complementary to genomics and proteomics. This journal covers the research fields related to biometals and is expected to be the core publication for the emerging metallomics community as they strive to fully understand the role of metals in biological systems. RSC
